May is Lyme Awareness month and Pennsylvania leads the nation in cases of Lyme and tick-borne diseases. Bucks County is the second highest county in PA for Lyme, and our youth are at the highest risk due to outdoor activities. Getting outdoors is important for physical and mental well being, but it is also important to take preventative measures against ticks. For this reason, local youth artists are using art to raise awareness.
For the entire month of May, their collaborative painting “Camelback Bridge Over the Delaware Canal” will be on display for silent auction, as well as a second group painting, “Limes for Lyme”. The highest bidder will be notified at the end of June. Posters and note cards of other student collaborative paintings, “Springtime at Tyler Park” and “Sunset over Schofield Ford Covered Bridge,” will also be on sale. 100% of proceeds will benefit PaLyme.org. Visit the PaLyme.org website for important info on preventing tick bites, tick proofing your yard, protecting your pets, what to do if bitten by a tick, and where to send the tick for testing.
To view the artwork and place a bid on the collaborative paintings, which are signed by all 29 participating students, visit 2 South State Street in historic Newtown. Free Lyme prevention brochures will be available. Call for hours: 215-968-2246. Bids can also be placed via email at youthartsilentauctionbids@aol.com.
