At the close of the 2024 swimming season, a member of the Langhorne Swim Club experienced a medical emergency. “In this case, we were fortunate that the member survived,” said Swim Club President Tim Stanford.

Following the incident, Stanford reached out to Langhorne Rotary member Kathy Horwatt to see if she could help secure funding for a new Automated External Defibrillator (AED), which typically costs more than $3,000. The Rotary Board quickly agreed to launch a fundraising effort for the vital equipment.

Julie Murray, Rotary Secretary, contacted local residents Frank and Kelly Boyle of Allegiance CPR & Training, who generously provided an AED at a reduced cost. The AED will be shared during the off-season with the Irish Rover Station House, where the Rotary Club holds its meetings. All Langhorne Swim Club lifeguards are AED-trained, ensuring that the equipment will be in skilled hands when needed.

The Langhorne Rotary Club (langhornerotary.com/), chartered in 1961, is part of Rotary District 7450 and continues to support a variety of service projects, including scholarships for local students, food drives, environmental cleanups, and international humanitarian efforts.

New members are always welcome. The club meets regularly at Irish Rover Station House (1033 S Bellevue Ave. in Langhorne) on the first and third Thursday of the month at 12 pm.
