A Spirited Comedy Haunts the Newtown Stage This Fall

Posted

Things are getting spooky (and side-splitting) in Newtown! This October, Newtown Arts Company invites you to an evening of laughter from beyond the grave with Noël Coward’s ghostly masterpiece Blithe Spirit—running October 16–19, 2025 at the historic Newtown Theatre. "Blithe spirit" is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, inc. See www.concordtheatricals.com for more information.

Directed by Molly Logan Chase and produced by Cheryl Young and Joe Stockette, this play is what happens when the afterlife doesn’t get the memo to “stay put.”

Ghosts, Giggles, and Marital Mischief

The story begins with Charles Condomine, a novelist looking for inspiration, who invites the eccentric medium Madame Arcati to conduct a séance. Instead of a little harmless research, Charles ends up with a very real problem: the spirit of his glamorous late wife, Elvira. She’s witty, she’s willful, and she’s ready to reclaim her man—even if he’s already remarried. Enter Ruth, Charles’s very alive (and very irritated) current wife, and you’ve got a recipe for supernatural chaos that’s equal parts comedy and calamity.

As Coward himself would say, the dialogue sparkles, the characters sizzle, and the ghosts simply refuse to behave.

A One-Week Haunting Only

Performances take place at 7:30 pm each evening, with 2 pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday. But beware—the spirits vanish after October 19, so grab your tickets before they disappear faster than a phantom at dawn. Tickets are available now at www.newtownartscompany.com.

More Than Just Theatre—It’s Community

For over 40 years, Newtown Arts Company has been more than a stage—it’s been a community hub where creativity thrives, scholarships bloom, and laughter echoes. Since 1983, we’ve awarded more than $260,000 in scholarships to local students pursuing the arts. Your support not only fills our seats but also fuels the next generation of artists.

So come for the comedy, stay for the spirits, and leave with a smile that even the afterlife can’t shake.
