On Friday morning, July 18, the Washington Crossing Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (WCDAR) welcomed newly naturalized citizens at the U.S. Citizenship Naturalization Ceremony held at the historic Pennsbury Manor in Morrisville.
The WCDAR supports this ceremony by partnering with Pennsbury Manor to serve breakfast to our new citizens and their families. The chapter makes a cash donation to Pennsbury Manor and provides American flag pins and patriotic souvenirs for the new citizens, and chapter members donate fruit and pastries to the breakfast.
Becoming a U.S. citizen through naturalization is a 10-step process that involves demonstrating continuous residence, good moral character, English proficiency, and knowledge of U.S. Civics. After those 10 steps have been completed and approved, the last and final act is to take the Oath of Allegiance. An individual is not a U.S. Citizen until they take the oath.
The DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, historic preservation, and education. Jennifer Viscusi, the WCDAR Regent, states "When new citizens take the Oath of Allegiance, they join a legacy that began with the revolution—a legacy of civic responsibility, equality under the law, and the promise of opportunity. It is both an honor and a privilege to serve and celebrate these individuals as they begin this exciting journey as brand-new United States citizens."
