Spotlight: State Representative, Joe Hogan

Posted

As your State Representative, I see every day how impactful our rising utility costs are on families and seniors. One of my highest priorities since taking office in 2022 has been finding ways to ease the burden of utility bills.

I have introduced numerous pieces of legislation to address this growing issue in our state. In October of 2025 I introduced two bills to ease the burden of rising electricity, water and natural gas bills on our residents. The first bill would allow claimants of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to deduct money spent on utilities. This allows far more residents to qualify for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate, putting money directly back into their pockets. Additionally, I introduced legislation that would create a new supplemental Property Tax/Rent Rebate specifically for energy costs, allowing claimants to receive up to $250 for energy expenses accrued in the previous year.

My office has worked tirelessly to ease immediate financial burdens on families, assisting in the processing of thousands of rebates, but the work does not end here. As chair of the Consumer Protection Subcommittee, I am constantly presenting new legislative initiatives to help those in our community.

Every bill introduced is part of the same commitment: making sure Bucks County families and seniors are not forced to choose between paying their utility bill and covering other necessities. I know these measures alone won’t undo the broader issues driving energy costs up, but they represent tangible relief for those in the 142nd legislative district. I will continue fighting in Harrisburg through legislation, through my role on the Consumer Protection Subcommittee, and through the work my office does every day to keep utility costs low.
